The Quaker Commitment to Middle East Peace

Quaker work in the Middle East dates back to 1875, with the establishment of a Friends school in Lebanon. In keeping with Quaker values, the AFSC has assisted persons in need without distinction between ethnic, religious or national affiliation. Since then the AFSC has worked in Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Iraq and elsewhere throughout the region.

Today, the AFSC continues to provide humanitarian aid, assists in reconstruction efforts, promotes peace-building programs, and supports local, civil society and social justice efforts in Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Iraq. The AFSC also conducts extensive dialogue projects with Iran.

In the United States, the AFSC carries out a variety of initiatives that aim to raise awareness, educate and advocate for the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Middle East while seeking a just, balanced, and peaceful U.S. policy in the region.
